Electric Vehicle misinformation – ‘The Facts’ are out there!

Let’s talk Electric Vehicle misinformation. How often have you read negative stories about electric vehicles in the media? How often have you been told EV’s are too expensive, and taken that as a given?

In actual fact, electric vehicles are becoming more affordable as the price between petrol cars and EVs continues to fall. The availability of used electric vehicles is also increasing, so how can we all know what the reality really is?

Enter 'The Facts'…  a campaign by Auto Trader, the National Franchised Dealers Association (NFDA), ChargeUK and the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT), which is focused on combatting misinformation.

This information is also endorsed by the Department for Transport, and Zapmap is getting behind getting ‘The Facts’ out to as many people as possible too.

The idea is to bring clarity, from trusted sources, on topics including how much you can save when driving electric, how EVs are less likely to catch fire than an ICE car, and that the range and charge point availability is more comprehensive than you might be led to believe.

The data will be regularly reviewed and updated, with new versions issued when necessary.

Our Head of EV Charging, Graeme Patton commented:

“Getting ‘The Facts’ out there is a great idea – a simple, reliable way to check some of the misinformation we see all too often. People need to know where to go to find reliable statistics and information they can trust, and we certainly welcome the efforts of Auto Trader, the National Franchised Dealers Association (NFDA), ChargeUK and the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT).

For us, it’s about making people feel as confident as they can, by making the reality accessible to everyone considering making the switch - or supporting the switch as we are. We will certainly share this data at every opportunity”.

Sue Robinson, chief executive of the NFDA, said:

“NFDA is delighted to be a part of this industry-wide initiative to champion the facts about electric cars and tackle misinformation as the transition to electric accelerates.

As the consumer-facing end of the industry, NFDA members have the professional knowledge and understanding in UK electric vehicle sales, with many accredited through NFDA’s Electric Vehicle Approved (EVA) scheme.

They provide comprehensive guidance on EV purchases and offer expert after-sales support, with highly trained EV technicians to meet customers' ongoing needs.”

So, don’t forget… now, ‘The Facts’ really are out there!
